First off, what is Nanotechnology?

Nanotechnology is the understanding and control of matter at the nanoscale, at dimensions between approximately 1 and 100 nanometers, where unique phenomena enable novel applications. Encompassing nanoscale science, engineering, and technology, nanotechnology involves imaging, measuring, modeling, and manipulating matter at this length scale.

Matter such as gases, liquids, and solids can exhibit unusual physical, chemical, and biological properties at the nanoscale, differing in important ways from the properties of bulk materials and single atoms or molecules. Some nanostructured materials are stronger or have different magnetic properties compared to other forms or sizes of the same material. Others are better at conducting heat or electricity. They may become more chemically reactive or reflect light better or change color as their size or structure is altered.

How does this apply to Cannabis?

To put it in simple terms, nanotechnology is used to turn substances like CBD oil and THC oil, into nano-size. Like all oils, they cannot be dissolved in water, so reducing them to a microscopic size expands the ways that the product can be delivered to the person consuming it. This makes a dramatic difference in the body’s ability to absorb a substance such as a cannabinoid – or just about anything else. Water-soluble vitamins and minerals have been around for quite some time – Nanotechnology allows this with cannabis, hemp, and plant constituents.

As a point of reference, one nanometer is one-thousandth of a micron, which is one-thousandth of a millimeter. When cannabinoids are this small, they can travel extremely quickly through the skin and other membranes of the human body and enter the bloodstream much faster.

Can other constituents of the plant be utilized with nanotechnology?

Yes, and that’s exactly what NANO, Nanobles, Inc. is doing. Nanotechnology is at the cutting edge of rapid healthcare product development as it has many potential human health benefits, but it is perceived with some apprehension as much more research needs to be done on the potential to destruct a molecule by reducing it’s size too drastically and actually damaging it (like CBD for example, or any plant constituent) through this technology.
